Wikipedia fixes 9 million broken links thanks to the Internet Archive — It used to be…back in the early days of the internet…we would set a hyperlink to a resource so that others could follow our sourcing and get to the original information that was published online. The thinking was that “XYZ resource will always be available at this location.” How naive. In our modern life, sites change, get put up, get taken down, information gets added, deleted, changed, etc. all willy-nilly with no regard for inbound links referencing original sources. How did we not see this before? Archive.org does a decent job trying to keep up with ever-changing websites. I’m glad they were able to help out Wikipedia in this way.
