Google ranking factors box goes live — The SEO world frothed at the mouth when Google began adding the ranking factors box to their results. Why? I don’t know. I have no idea who this is meant to appeal to, but these are basically meaningless platitudes. Oooh, you mean this page ranks because it mentions the keyword you searched for in the language that you searched in? Well, no shit…I can’t believe that’s the case. Praise the Lord, now I’ll start writing in English for my English-speaking clients and using keywords in page copy! I’ve seen the light! /sarcasm

Simple, private file sharing — OK, I’m not sharing “gloom and doom” security stories or harping on security this week…but here’s a tool to help keep your data more secure. (See what I did there?) Wormhole is a browser-based app developed by a professor at Standford University. The app allows you to securely send a file across the intertubes. There are other tools that do this but this one purports to encrypt your data end-to-end and delete the data after a preset time. Full disclosure: I have not verified these claims so there’s a bit of trust needed on this one!

Why you can’t trust keyword search volume — Keyword search volume provided by Google Ads and other SEO tools provides a much-needed estimation of how much traffic you would end up getting if you were to rank high for a given keyword.
