Cue the applause. We unveiled the long awaited My Career Search Engine last week to much fanfare. Well, there were no horns or confetti, but there very well should have been. The My Career Search Engine takes job hunting to the next level, leveraging the power of Google to crawl the web and seek out job opportunities on corporate websites. More specifically, it focuses on finding opportunities on the web that job hunters might have otherwise missed while using traditional job sites.
Managing Partner Adam Henige explains the benefits of The My Career Search Engine, “People fall into the trap of thinking the only place to find jobs are on job boards like Monster.com or Career Builder, but those sites cost money to list openings on so a lot of companies don’t participate. The My Career Search Engine is designed to seek out career and job pages that aren’t on those job boards.”
In addition to the advantageous results, the My Career Search Engine is timely in that more job openings are becoming available and more individuals are actively searching for positions. Henige explains the motivation behind developing this free application: “The original idea came when a former intern was looking for a job out West but wasn’t having any luck. I showed her a few ways to use Google advanced searches and suddenly she was finding all sorts of jobs that fit what she was looking for. Expanding it into a tool for public use just seemed like the right thing to do considering how many people are in search of jobs right now.”
With assistance from East Lansing-based Nicholas Creative, we were able to construct our tool with a user-friendly interface, making it simple for all job seekers to use effectively.
