Coming soon to Google Maps: Advertising — Brace yourself: ads are coming… to Google Maps. Google recently announced it is experimenting with ads on Maps to allow ad pop-ups when you’re near an advertiser, such as gas stations, restaurants or retail businesses. Consumers won’t be able to turn off the ads. It’s too soon to tell what this could mean for users on Google Maps, but it could potentially drive users away.

Lessons Learned from Losing All our Rankings after a Bad Site Revamp — Few things make SEOs more nervous than the words “website revamp.” This is a great example of rushed website launch that overlooked important SEO considerations. In this case, URLs were changed without implementing 301 redirects, among other things. We know some great web developers and they all know never to do that. Lesson: keep a SEO closely involved when launching a website.
